Bills fall to Patriots, 17-10

The Buffalo Bills put together a strong gameplan but it wasn’t enough in a 17-10 loss to the New England Patriots.

Give Buffalo a lot of credit for keeping the game close against a New England team that is in must-win mode with the Miami Dolphins starting to creep up behind them in the AFC East.

The Bills defense held running back Laurence Maroney and wide receiver Randy Moss each under 100 yards on the day, but did surrender a touchdown to each player.

Buffalo did a great job frustrating quarterback Tom Brady, who is in a slump right now. He threw for just 115 yards with a touchdown and an interception, a miserable day by his standards.

If the Bills could just find some kind of consistent offense, they would have had a great shot to spring the upset. The Trent Edwards/Ryan Fitzpatrick duo is simply not getting the job done.

Bills get past Chiefs, 16-10

The Buffalo Bills used a strong defensive effort to pick up a huge road win over the Kansas City Chiefs, 16-10.

Running back Fred Jackson led the way for the sputtering offense with almost 100 total yards on the day.

The defense did the rest, as the secondary confused and frustrated quarterback Matt Cassel throughout the game.

The Bills did surrender nearly 150 rushing yards to Jamaal Charles, but the defense clamped down when it had to.

Buffalo might be out of the playoff race, but it’s still evident they are going to play out the rest of the season.

Bills fall to Jets, 19-13

The Buffalo Bills played their first game in Toronto and disappointed the crowd in a 19-13 loss to the New York Jets.

Buffalo’s normally stingy pass defense was burned several times by rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Running back Marshawn was the one bright spot for the Bills as he finally showed why he is worthy of the starting role.

Fellow backfield mate Fred Jackson was rendered almost useless in this game after having a breakout performance last week.

The Bills do have a prime opportunity to pick up a win next week when they travel to Kansas City to take on the struggling Chiefs.

Bills Offense Stifled by Jets, Lose 19-13

Fresh off a 31-14 thrashing of the Dolphins last weekend, the Bills’ offense returned to its typical stagnant ways on Thursday night, as the Jets stymied the Bills’ offense in the second half of a 19-13 victory.

The Jets lost QB Mark Sanchez on their second possession of the third quarter, after Sanchez dove headfirst at the end of an eight-yard run and injured his knee. But the Jets’ defense stepped up, holding the Bills offense to a grand total of 36 yards in the second half.

“They had our number today,” Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said. “Very disappointing. We had opportunities all day. Just real disappointed with what happened out there.”

The yardage total was the Bills’ second lowest in the second half since 1991.

“We had an opportunity there at the end to at least establish something, but it was too little, too late,” WR Terrell Owens said.

The teams traded leads early, with the Jets taking it for good after Sanchez hooked up with WR Braylon Edwards for a touchdown at the end of the second quarter. The TD gave the Jets a six-point lead… all the lead they would need, once their defense stepped to the plate.

“We just didn’t get it done, bottom line,” interim coach Perry Fewell said, who dropped to 1-2 since taking over. “But we had an opportunity to win the football game in the fourth quarter.”

Bills run past Dolphins, 31-14

The Buffalo Bills used a big effort from their offense en route to a surprising, 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick turned in a solid performance, throwing a touchdown pass and running for another.

The Bills got things going on the ground in the second half, as running back Fred Jackson scored two touchdowns.

The defense did give up some yards to running back Ricky Williams, but held the passing game in check.

It was first career victory for head coach Perry Fewell, who took over on an interim basis after Dick Jauron was fired.

Bills Ride 24-Point Fourth Quarter to Beat Dolphins, 31-14

The Buffalo Bills gave interim head coach Perry Fewell (the former defensive coordinator) his first win of the season, as they exploded for 24 points in the fourth quarter en route to a 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

The Bills only managed to get one scoring drive together through three quarters, but the Dolphins had only managed to work up a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter. A Fred Jackson run one minute into the fourth quarter knotted the game at 14, and the Bills took the lead for good with Rian Lindell’s career-long 56-yard field goal with 3:35 left in the game.

From there? It was an offensive showcase.

Embattled WR Terrell Owens continued his late-season resurgence by catching a 51-yard TD from Ryan Fitzpatrick after Dolphins QB Chad Henne threw his first of three late-game interceptions.

“Well, he’s two weeks too late,” Owens said. “I’ve been wanting to be aggressive all year.”

On the sidelines after Owens’ score, Fewell was spotted demanding another touchdown from his offense to seal the game up. RB Fred Jackson obliged, scoring on a 7-yard burst with 1:20 left in the game to ice it for the Bills.

“How sweet it is, baby,” said Fewell, who has never been a head coach at any level. “We’ve been talking about finishing. That’s what we did today.”
